HOW OFTEN DO I CHANGE MY FILTER?
It is not how often, it is recognizing how dirty a filter has to get before it requires changing.  The filter will discolor as it becomes more dirty.  Any discoloration means it is beginning to restrict airflow to the A/C unit.  You should change the filter with ANY discoloration if you have a dirty filter.  It’s kind of like riding in your car with the emergency brake on.  You will lose quite a bit of cooling and will raise your electric bill.

WHAT TYPE OF A/C QUALIFIES FOR FEDERAL TAX REBATE?
The Federal Government requires a rating of 16 SEER @ 13 EER to qualify for the Tax Rebate.

WHAT DOES THE SEER RATING MEAN:
The SEER Rating is an expression of electrical consumption efficiency.  It equates to gas mileage in a car.  The higher the SEER rating will lower the amount of electricity your A/C will consume.  For example, a 12 SEER System uses 25% more electricity than a 16 SEER System.  So you can conclude that it is directly proportional.

HOW DOES ALGEA GROWTH OCCUR IN A/C SYSTEMS:
Algae growth in your indoor coil (evaporator) and drain pan is caused by the condensation water on the cold indoor coil rinsing the air of mold and algae spores as the air passes through the wet coil.  It drains into the drain pan and grows from there.
